“Sometimes, the quietest puppy has the loudest personality waiting to come out.”
The Puppy We Never Planned For
Ginger’s story didn’t begin with a plan.
When Hazelnut and Caramel first became part of our family, we had once imagined what it would be like if they had puppies of their own.
But as time passed, something changed.
We simply loved them too much.
The thought of breeding them no longer felt right to us. We were already happy with the family we had built, and we didn’t want to change that.
But sometimes, life has a way of writing its own story.
One day, Hazelnut and Caramel unexpectedly mated.
We separated them afterward and did our best to prevent it from happening again.
But it was already too late.
And perhaps, as we often say in our family, Ginger was simply meant to be.

Want to see the moment Caramel became a mother? Watch the birth of her puppies here.
Seven Little Corgis
Caramel gave birth to seven beautiful puppies.
Five boys.
Two girls.
And somehow, everyone was healthy and born naturally.
Their names were:
Peanut, Kiona, Ginger, Ciarra, Almond, Cinnamon, and Brunette.

Ginger was the third puppy.
From the moment they were born, Caramel became an incredible mother.
She cared for all seven of her puppies with so much love that we knew something else would be difficult when the time came for them to leave.
We knew we wanted to keep at least one.
Not only because we loved the puppies, but because we didn’t want Caramel to suddenly lose all seven of her babies.
So we decided that one of them would stay with us.
We just didn’t know which one.
The Puppy Nobody Expected to Choose
Interestingly, Ginger wasn’t our first choice.
As the puppies grew, each one began showing a different personality.
And Ginger?
He was probably the quietest of them all.
While the other puppies were running around and playing, Ginger often preferred to sit quietly by himself.
Sometimes he’d stay in a corner, looking at us with a very particular expression.
Almost as if he was silently judging us. π
He wasn’t the most active.
He wasn’t the most outgoing.
And perhaps because of that, he wasn’t the obvious choice for most adopters.
Eventually, only two puppies remained available:
Almond and Ginger.
The final adopter couldn’t decide between the two.
And that was the moment something inside Papa Corgi Coffeelatte made a decision.
He wanted Ginger to stay.
There was just a feeling.
A feeling that somehow…
Ginger belonged with us.

Or Was Ginger Already Planning It?
Looking back at Ginger’s puppy days, we sometimes joke that perhaps he knew exactly what he was doing.
Maybe being quiet wasn’t his real personality.
Maybe he was simply waiting.
Waiting until everyone else had found their families.
And once there were no more adopters left…
He could stay with us. π
Because the moment Ginger became part of our pack, something changed.
The quiet puppy disappeared.
And in his place came…

Ginger.
The loudest one of them all.
The Loudest One in the Pack
Ginger is surprisingly talkative.
Very talkative.
He can be loud when we arrive somewhere for a walk.
He can be loud when we come home.
He can be loud when we wake up in the morning.
And when the four Corgis are walking together, Ginger almost always wants to be at the front.
As if he’s leading an important expedition.
Hazelnut and Irish sometimes seem to have had enough of his constant commentary.
But Ginger doesn’t seem particularly concerned.
He has somewhere to go.
And apparently, everyone else should follow him.

The Ginger We See With Our Own Eyes
But there’s something fascinating about Ginger.
When he’s with the whole pack, he’s noisy.
Playful.
Demanding.
Always looking for attention.
But when it’s just Ginger and his Pawrents…
He’s completely different.
He becomes incredibly sweet.
Quiet.
Obedient.
He doesn’t care about other people calling him.
He doesn’t seem particularly interested in other dogs.
He simply wants to stay with us.
It’s almost as if the noisy, mischievous Corgi disappears whenever he’s alone with his humans.
And we get to see another side of him.
The affectionate one.
The gentle one.
The one who just wants to be close to his Pawrents.
Still Trying to Be First
Ginger has always wanted attention.
And sometimes, we think that’s part of why he’s so vocal.
If we’re giving attention to another Corgi, Ginger wants to know:
“What about me?”
If another dog gets to go first, Ginger wants to know:
“Why not me?”
And if we’re walking together…
Well, obviously…

Ginger should be in front. π
Even today, he still tries to establish himself as one of the most important members of the pack.
We sometimes have to remind him that being part of a family doesn’t mean being the boss.
Especially when your dad is Hazelnut.
Father and Son
Ginger loves bothering Hazelnut.
Sometimes he seems determined to challenge his father, almost as if he’s saying:
“Maybe it’s my turn to lead this pack.”
There have been moments when their teasing has turned into a little argument.
But Hazelnut is usually the calmer one.
Rather than responding, he often simply walks away.
Perhaps that’s his way of saying:
“You can have this one, son.” π

To Hazelnut, Ginger seems to be less of a special “son” and more simply another member of the pack.
And maybe that’s exactly what Ginger needs.
Someone who doesn’t take his little challenges too seriously.
A Son Who Still Knows His Mother
Ginger’s relationship with Caramel is different.
They don’t sleep together as much as they used to.
These days, Ginger is much more attached to his human Pawrents.
But there still seems to be something between them.
Something familiar.
Something that tells us that, somehow, they know.
Mother and son.
And whenever they play together, Ginger seems to have a softer side toward Caramel.
We see it especially when they play with a ball.
Ginger can be quite competitive with Irish.
He’ll happily steal her ball.
But when Caramel has it?
He seems to know better.
Perhaps some rules don’t need to be taught.
Maybe they’re simply understood.

The Boy Who Always Wants to Be First
Ginger has grown into a beautiful sable Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
But his personality is what truly makes him Ginger.
He’s confident.
He’s vocal.
He’s affectionate.
He’s jealous of attention.
He’s sometimes mischievous.
And he’s still trying to figure out exactly how far he can push his Pawrents. π

But underneath all of that is a Corgi who loves his family deeply.
He loves his pack.
He loves his humans.
And perhaps most importantly…
He knows exactly where he belongs.
What Ginger Taught Us
Looking back, Ginger’s arrival reminds us of something we’ve learned many times throughout our journey with dogs.
Not everything has to happen according to plan.
Sometimes life gives you something you never expected.
Sometimes you make a decision because of a feeling you can’t explain.
And sometimes…
The puppy you almost didn’t choose turns out to be the one who was meant to stay.
Ginger wasn’t our first choice.
But somehow, he became our choice.
And today, we can’t imagine our family without him.
The Four of Us
Hazelnut was the beginning.
Caramel brought the quiet heart.
Irish brought the sunshine.
And Ginger…
Ginger brought the noise. π
He brought the energy.
The arguments.
The laughter.
The jealousy.
The endless barking.
And a completely different kind of love.

Four Corgis.
Four personalities.
Four very different little souls.
But somehow…
One family.
And when we look back at how it all happened, we realize that our family wasn’t something we carefully designed.
It simply grew.
One pawprint at a time.
“Sometimes, the one you never planned for becomes the one you can’t imagine living without.” πΎ
